In Oranienbaum, you will visit the most significant Menshikov Palace, named after its first owner.
A tiny belvedere tower still rises above the palace roof, from where Menshikov could see Kronstadt through a telescope. The majestic appearance of the palace, its grand scale, and rich interiors still evoke admiration and wonder.
Then you will head to the Chinese Palace, part of Empress Catherine II's 'Private Dacha' complex. The palace was called Chinese because Chinese motifs were used in its interiors. It also houses rich collections of items made by craftsmen from China. No two rooms are alike, and the 18th-century parquet floors were designed after Rinaldi's drawings. The Glass Bead Study in the Chinese Palace is rightly considered a masterpiece of interior art. Its walls are decorated with 12 panels in carved gilded frames, where flowers, landscapes, and fairy-tale birds are embroidered in silk on a glass-bead base — it all looks fantastic!
