One of the most unusual structures of the complex is the Rolling Hill Pavilion — a rare architectural monument associated with the court entertainments of the 18th century. Once there was a huge wooden hill nearby, down which people rode in special carriages.
The Picture House deserves special attention — a unique mid-18th-century building designed by F. B. Rastrelli. Under one roof it combined an art gallery, a library, a cabinet of curiosities and the first court opera theater. Today in its halls you can see more than 80 paintings by Western European masters, recreated carved library cabinets, a collection of Chinese decorative and applied art, and the reconstructed space of the opera hall.

The Grand Menshikov Palace in Oranienbaum
The central place in the ensemble is occupied by the Grand Menshikov Palace — a majestic monument of 18th-century architecture, built in the early Baroque style according to the design of architects Giovanni Fontana and Gottfried Schädel for the first governor of St. Petersburg, the closest associate of Peter the Great — Prince Alexander Danilovich Menshikov.
The palace rises on a coastal hill and seems to float above the surroundings. Its central part is crowned with a princely coronet, and two wings, designed as galleries, lead to the eastern and western outbuildings, forming a ceremonial cour d'honneur. At different times, the owners of Oranienbaum were Prince Menshikov, Emperor Peter III, and Empress Catherine II, who left their mark on the history and appearance of the residence.
Oranienbaum is a unique palace and park ensemble located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland, 40 kilometers from St. Petersburg. In 1948, the city was renamed in honor of the great Russian scientist and educator Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov, but the historical name Oranienbaum has been preserved for the palace and park complex.
