Only during the reign of Elizabeth Petrovna did the settlement turn into a true imperial residence. The main decoration of the residence was the Grand Catherine Palace. Under Elizabeth, the palace was rebuilt twice and finally acquired its current appearance under the guidance of the famous Italian architect F.B. Rastrelli, who created many genuine masterpieces in the style of Russian Baroque in St. Petersburg.

A special place in the city's history is occupied by the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum — a famous educational institution founded in 1811 by decree of Emperor Alexander I. Many outstanding figures of Russia studied here, among whom Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin holds a special place. The Lyceum became a symbol of Russian enlightenment, friendship, and spiritual development of an entire generation.
