Author's tour «Literary Petersburg: Three Centuries of Inspiration»

From 3000 ₽

This is a unique journey through three centuries of Russian literature in one city. In a single tour, you will travel from the grand imperial St. Petersburg of Pushkin, through the rebellious mystical city of the Silver Age, to the dissident Leningrad of the Sixties poets. You will see how the same city gave birth to completely different worlds and inspired geniuses.

Key idea: St. Petersburg is not just a city, but a vast literary universe. Each era wrote its own chapter here, each great author created his own twin city. We will show you how completely different artistic realities were born on the same streets.

Route points and literary eras:
  • Golden Age Nevsky Prospekt in Gogol's world: The place where the tragicomic story of the artist Piskarev and the official Poprishchin unfolded. We will see St. Petersburg as a phantasmagoria, a deceptive city where reality is distorted as in a funhouse mirror.
  • Golden Age "Dostoevsky's Petersburg" near Sennaya Square: The place where Raskolnikov's route began. The world of the "insulted and humiliated," of cramped courtyard-wells and gloomy ditches, where criminal plans were born and spiritual rebirth took place.
  • Silver Age The "Stray Dog" basement: The legendary art basement on Arts Square, where young Akhmatova read poetry, Gumilev and Mayakovsky argued, and the "celestial" Blok visited. The epicenter of the literary revolution of the early 20th century.
  • Silver Age Fountain House - Akhmatova's apartment: The Sheremetev Palace, where the poet survived the arrests of loved ones, wrote "Requiem," and preserved the memory of a bygone era. A symbol of resilience and creative resistance.
  • 20th century Joseph Brodsky's Petersburg: The area around the former Pestel Street, where his Leningrad life unfolded. "A Room and a Half," the courtyards he described, and the space from which he was forever exiled in 1972.
  • 20th century Sergei Dovlatov's Leningrad: Kuznechny Market, the vicinity of Five Corners - the places of his walks and observations. The city seen through the eyes of an ironic emigrant, where the absurdity of Soviet life turned into brilliant prose.

What you will learn:
- How the image of St. Petersburg changed in literature: from a symbol of imperial power to a place of personal tragedy and absurdity.
- Why the same streets inspired such different authors as Pushkin, Dostoevsky, and Brodsky.
- How historical cataclysms (revolution, blockade, repression) were reflected in the Petersburg text of Russian literature.

Conclusion: You will see St. Petersburg as a living palimpsest - a manuscript where the lines of the Silver Age are written over the texts of the Golden Age, and over them - the tragic and ironic records of the 20th century. A city that itself became the greatest literary work, created over three centuries.
