The excursion to Kronstadt and the Museum of Russian Naval Glory is dedicated to the history of the Russian fleet and the maritime traditions of the Baltic.
Kronstadt is located on Kotlin Island in the Gulf of Finland and was founded by Peter the Great as a naval fortress. For three centuries, the city served as the main base of the Baltic Fleet.
The trip to Kronstadt runs along the protective dam across the Gulf of Finland, which is 25.4 kilometers long. From the dam, panoramic views of the sea channels and port facilities of the Baltic open up.
After arriving in the city, there is a walk through the historic center. You will see Anchor Square, the monument to Admiral Makarov, and the Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas, dedicated to the sailors of the Russian fleet.
The central part of the program is a visit to the Museum of Russian Naval Glory. This is a modern museum complex that presents the history of the fleet from the era of Peter the Great to the present day.
The exhibitions feature models of ships, navigation instruments, sea charts, weapons, and documents related to the development of navigation and shipbuilding. Separate sections tell about the Baltic Fleet, naval battles, and submarines.
Interactive exhibits allow visitors to understand the structure of ships and learn about the lives of sailors in different historical eras.
After visiting the museum, the excursion continues with a walk through the park "Fort Island", dedicated to the history of the Russian fleet and naval heroes.
Route of the excursion to Kronstadt:
- Departure — Saint Petersburg, Ligovsky Prospekt 10
- Drive along the dam (24.5 km) and the flood protection facility complex.
- Anchor Square - the main square of Kronstadt, the heart of the city. Here you will see the monument to Admiral Makarov, admiralty anchors from different eras, and the famous Naval St. Nicholas Cathedral.
- St. Nicholas Cathedral - (Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker) – the main church of the Russian Navy and a majestic monument to all fallen sailors.
- Park "Fort Island" - a new modern park, opened in 2020 and dedicated to the history of the Russian fleet. Here you will see the alley of heroes of the Russian fleet, interactive exhibits, ship models, maritime-themed playgrounds, and observation decks with views of the Gulf of Finland.
- Naval Museum — optional (for an additional fee) you can visit the museum, which houses a rich collection dedicated to the history of Kronstadt and the Russian fleet: ship models, navigation instruments, weapons, documents, and personal belongings of sailors. If you want to visit the museum with the entrance ticket already included, we recommend the excursion to Kronstadt with a visit to the Naval Museum.
